Marshall University (dark jerseys) lost to Western Michigan (white jerseys) 17-20 for the homecoming game on Oct. 19, 1974, at Fairfield Stadium. The team ended with a 1-10 record under coach Jack Lengyel, who had coached the rebuilding of the team after the Nov. 14, 1970, plane crash. He resigned at the end of the 1974 season.
